Lingzhi, also known as Shenzhi, Xiancao, Yaocao, Huanyangcao, Linzhongling, Junlingzhi, Wannian Mushroom, Lingcao, Chizhi, Danzhi, and Qiongzhen, is a species of fruiting body of the Polyporaceae fungus. It can be harvested year-round and dried in the shade or in the sun. Large quantities of Lingzhi for medicinal purposes require meticulous drying. Incomplete drying or exposure to moisture and mold will not only destroy its medicinal value but also produce toxins.
1. Harvesting time is crucial. It should be harvested just as the spores mature and begin to release spores. The cap of the harvested fruiting body should be membranous or leathery, red, brownish-yellow, or brown, free of deformities, large and thick, and have a metallic sheen.
2. After harvesting, store the Lingzhi in a dry and well-ventilated environment to prevent mold.
3. Use a knife to remove impurities from the base of the Ganoderma lucidum stipe. Then, evenly spread the sieve at a load of 8-10 jin (1000-2000 catties) per square meter.
4. Set the Ganoderma lucidum drying machine to medium-high temperature for 2-3 hours, followed by 60-70°C for 8-12 hours. The entire drying process should be completed in one go, avoiding any interruptions. Dehydration and drying are complete when the Ganoderma lucidum cap is firm and the moisture content is below 13%. If drying is terminated before it is completely dry, the Ganoderma lucidum will be susceptible to mold and insect infestation, resulting in a low selling price. Conversely, overdrying will result in low yield, breakage, and a low yield rate.
