Chilli require an appropriate drying temperature. Too high a temperature will destroy the nutrients in the peppers, while too low a temperature will reduce drying efficiency. So, what's the ideal temperature setting for a chili pepper dryer?
Chilli Drying Process in a Chilli Dryer
Let's take a mesh-belt chilli dryer produced by Lantian Machinery as an example to understand the chilli drying process.
1. Chilli enter the dryer via a feed conveyor. A leveling device evenly spreads the peppers onto the mesh belt.
2. The peppers move in an "S" pattern within the drying chamber, turning layer by layer.
3. Hot air from a heat source enters the dryer via an induced draft fan. The hot air flows from the bottom up through the mesh belt and the pepper layers, drying each layer.
4. The dried peppers are discharged via a discharge conveyor.
What's the ideal temperature setting for a chilli dryer?
The moisture content of chilli ranges from 75% to 85%. To ensure optimal drying results, the temperature should be set between 40°C and 60°C. Peppers dried within this range are of relatively high quality, with minimal changes in color and nutritional value.
Of course, the belt speed, temperature, and humidity can be adjusted during the drying process to suit production needs, allowing for the drying of peppers of varying moisture contents and varieties.
