        The water in the wood is mainly free water and hygroscopic water. The water existing in the big capillary system composed of cell lumen is called free water, and its increase or decrease just will affect the weight of wood, and can’t affect its quality. While, the water existing in the micro capillary sytem composed of cell wall is called hygroscopic water, and its change not only will make the wood thrinking and expanding, but also will affect the other physical and mechanical properties of the wood. The wood drying process is to reduce its free water and hygroscopic water to adapt to the different usages and requirements. Although there are multiple ways to dry wood, but the basic principle is the common, and it is using the gradient of wood moisture content and the pressure difference formed by big internal and small external water vapor after heating, to make the water in the form of liquid and gas states and continuously move from internal to external, and evaporate to outside through the wood surface. And the internal water movement strength should be coordinated with the evaporation intersity of water surface to make the wood to be dried evenly from the surface to inside.
